Born in St-Brieuc in Northern Brittany, Charles Badoisel lived most of his life in the Anjou region where he became the "official" artist painter for the city of Angers in the 1980s. He was a key actor in the Salon of Painting and Sculpture of Angers. His family had moved to the North of France right before the War, but following the invasion by German forces in 1940, they had to flee to Angers where Charles Badoisel studied at the Chevrollier highschool. Charles Badoisel witnessed the Liberation of Angers (1944) which inspired him a painting selected at the Salon of the "Artist Painters witnesses of their Time" held in Paris in 1962. From his balcony facing down towards the Boulevard Bédier in Angers, he produced a number of paintings and drawings in the 1960s. Passionate about the city of Angers, he produced many drawings and paintings of key monuments and sites of the city : the Castle of the King René, Angers Cathedral and the River banks of the Maine & the Mayenne. Fascinated by the beautyful vineyards around Anjou, he captured the delicate poetry in the landscapes through his vivid and richfull palette of colours.
