Biography

          Born in Saint-Brieuc (French Britanny) on June 3rd 1925, died on December 27th 2009 in Avrillé (Western France Loire Region). He spent his childhood in the North of France, at Douai. His family then had to flee to Angers during WWII. He obtained his Bachelor Degree at Chevrollier High School in the city of Angers. He showed a passion and a skill for drawing and painting from an early age. Since the 1950s, he relentlessly participated to the Grand exhibitions of the Salons in Paris : Salon of the Young Painters, Salon of the Independent Artists, Salon of the Painters Witnesses of their Time, Salon Comparisons, Salon of Drawing and Watercolour, Salon Autumn. His first achievement in a personal exhibit took place in 1955 at the Lamoureux Art Gallery in Angers. After that first successful exhibit, more than sixty personal exhibitions took place in various cities of France : Angers, Paris, Nantes, Laval, La Baule, Nice, Marseille, Saint-Paul de Vence, Avignon, Reunion Island... His Artistic work (Watercolours, Drawings, Oil Paintings) was held in many Art Galleries throughout the years : Saint-Roch Gallery in Paris, Saphir Gallery (Paris, Dinard, Bécherel), Gallery of Banneret in Bern (Switzerland), Walter Gallery in Saint-Paul de Vence... He was also one of the founding member of the major Art exhibition in Angers called the “Salon of Paintings and Sculptures of the city of Angers” in 1982  with his Artist friend Jean COMMERE. He will remain the main secretary and organiser of this major Artistic event from 1982 until 1988.  Landscape Painter of the Anjou Region along the Loire Valley (Angers, Montreuil-sur-Maine, wineries and Bonnezeaux and Côteaux du Layon, ...), he also painted his beloved birthplace Brittany, especially the Côte d’Emeraude from the port of Erquy to Saint-Malo, with an emphasis on Saint-Briac, Saint-Lunaire and Dinard.  He had a prolific work  in the Côte d’Azur which inspired him tremendously (Nice, Villefranche-sur- Mer, Cannes, Théoule, Saint-Paul de Vence,..). From his numerous trips around the world, he filled many sketchbooks of drawings and watercolours. He was particularly inspired by Italy, Spain, Portugal, Holland, Morocco, the USA, Russia, Reunion Island.

          Charles Badoisel received an honorary distinction in 1985 being made Knight of the Art and Litterature.
